Old EMEP MSC-W modelled air concentrations and depositions

The depositions of sulphur (S) and nitrogen (N), and air concentrations of ozone (O3) and particulate matter (PM) available here are calculated with the EMEP MSC-W model as earlier reported in the annual EMEP status reports.

Data produced by EMEP/MSC-W are licensed under Norwegian license for public data (NLOD) and Creative Commons 4.0 BY International. Credit should be given to The Norwegian Meteorological institute, shortened "MET Norway", as the source of data. Some suggestions: "Data from The Norwegian Meteorological Institute", "Based on data from MET Norway".

Available data for download on this page is gridded data on NetCDF format and national totals and gridded data on html and ASCII format.

Types of model calculations

As the EMEP MSC-W model calculations are changing with time, not only because of EMEP MSC-W model updates, but also due to modifications of the input data (e.g. revised emission data and meteorology). In broad terms, two types of model results can be distinguished:

Model results of Type 1 are labeled by the year they are calculated for (e.g. '*2016met*', etc.), while model results of Type 2 are further labeled by the year when the re-calculation was made. E.g. for NetCDF files '2013met_2013emis_rep2016' or for ASCII files '2013 v2016' refers to model results for the year 2013, which were obtained in 2016 using the best data available in 2016. Model results of Type 2 should be preferred when doing trend analyses.

Please note that the model run for "2015 emis2014" in EMEP Status Report 1/2016 is performed with 2014 emissions, as emission data for 2015 were not yet available. And the same for "2014 emis2013", performed with 2013 emissions as reported in EMEP Status Report 1/2015.

User Guide to list-boxes

Please remember to give suitable filenames to the downloaded files. Please note that the ASCII files are compatible with Excel.

The list-boxes above allow for multiple selections of Countries/Areas, Year and Chemical Components. With [CTRL]-[Left Mouse-Button] several items can be selected or deselected. With [Shift]-[Left Mouse-Button] a continuous list can be selected or deselected. When all selections are done, please press the Show Data button. If you need to redo the selection, please press the Clear All button and make your new selections. At least one item from each of the following categories needs to be selected:

Emissions

The emissions used for the yearly model calculations have been derived from each years official data submissions to CEIP emission database/UNECE CLRTAP and are documented in the appendix of the EMEP Status Reports listed below.
