Atmospheric supply of nitrogen to the OSPAR Convention Waters in the period 1990 - 2001

This report has been prepared for the German Federal Environmental Agency (UBA) and for the OSPAR Commission (for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the North-East Atlantic). It is based on model estimates and monitoring results presented to the twenty-seventh session of the Steering Body of EMEP (Co-operative Programme for Monitoring and Evaluation of Long-Range Transmission of Air Pollutants in Europe). This is the second report for UBA. The first report was ready in October 2003 and presented to OSPAR EUC meeting in December 2004 and to OSPAR-INPUT meeting in January 2003. Comments and corrections received from the participants of these meetings are included in the present report. Annual modelled nitrogen deposition: totals for individual nitrogen species (NOx-N, NH4-N, Ntotal) in t/a (time series: 1990, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001) to the 5 regions and 12 sub-regions of the OSPAR maritime area (tables) For the maps grid resolution, the resolution in the HELCOM maps should be used (50 km at 60 deg N), The latest and verified version of the model should be used.

Maps of modelled deposition for the nitrogen species (NOx-N , NH4-N , Ntotal ) in mg/m² for the OSPAR region for two years: 1990 and 2001. Deposition isolines for individual nitrogen species (NOx-N, NH4-N, Ntotal) in mg/m² for region 2 (Greater North Sea). For the maps, the same grid resolution as for the HELCOM maps should be used (50 km at 60 deg N). The latest and verified version of the model should be used.
